Blog Response 1- Fate (200 words)
In my opinion people dont fall victems to fate or destiny. You create you own destiny and there is no sort of plan or path for us. I dont believe everything happens for a reason, i believe everything is random. For exaple, if one person moves from one side of the world to the other and just so happens to fall in love with someone from that part of the world it doesn't mean that they were meant to be together. Human Emotions are just chemicals affecting the brain. Person A could have just as easily have fallen in love with another person. They weren't 'meant' to be together, the chemicals in their brain make them feel as though they need eachother, and that feeling of 'need' causes them to believe that some divine force cuased them to love eachother. But the reality of it is that there is no real reason for anything, and life if purposeless. If Fate existed then maybe there would be a pursose but, for me, i dont believe in fate so I believe that there is no purpose. The only destiny is the one we create ourselves. the people we meet, the things that occur, and the things we do may have have large influences to our future but there is no evidence to support the fact that they were supposed to happen. Some -most- people believe that we all have plans, paths, destinies or fates but no one actually knows. Fate or destiny is as much imaginary as a purple monster with big red eyes and large yellow teeth just because someone just randomly thought that theory up one day. One may just be alittle more believeable. Another reason people beilve in fate is because it makes them feel good about themselves and about life. But in the end, nobody knows, and no living person ever will.

Lord of the Flies Blog Response (300-400 words)
Humans are evil, it's just that simple. We have potential because some of us have consciences(the little person in the back of our heads telling us whats right and wrong).Humans are paracitic viruses. We start off small and harmless but end up causing pain and suffering to other creatures. Humans are like viruses because we use up the earth we live on until its completly dryed up and deprived of the natural resources it priviously had. Aside from that rant, humans are animals, which is why i believe in evolution because when we are striped of our civilized ways we turn to our most primative state, a savage state. But really what is Good and what is Evil? Is murder good or bad? Is Theft Good or is it bad?? You see From a savage's point of veiw laws and rules may be the roots of evil because for one to be bad you have to have a standard to compare them to...the same goes for being good. But from a modern civilized point of veiw savagery and anarchy are the roots of evil becasue they rely survival for themselves and not for others. My next point is that there is no way humans can possibly be good from the start because of how we are always having to teach our kids how to behave or be "good". It we took a baby and left it on an island with food shelter and water, and it grew up on its own with no contact from an other human beings how do you think it would act? well it would probably act like an animal. Now you may not think much of that because you dont look at animals and try to distinguish whether they are good or bad but if you saw a fully grown human acting like so then you migh think he is evil. All of that was said to make this point, it's in our nature to be evil and theres nothing we can do about it excpt try the best we can to hide it and restrian ourselves from the destruction of society. becasue that's evil's goal. to take everything we have and destroy it so that you can become what you were in the begining, an aniaml. In theLord of the Flies, Jack represents the savage in everyone of us. All he wants to do is hunt and play he even ignores Ralph's plan to be rescued by letting the fires go out. Ralph wants to build a camp and have order and peace like any good civilization but Jack's need for blood takes him and his followers father and father away for good and closer and closer to the evil in our soul. Ralph wants to be civilized, piggy want to have order and jack wants to have fun. Jack is only interested the quest for blood, and it is this that gets him the boys in a frenzy. They get so caught up in their frenzy that they attack Simon and kill him out of fear of the beast. Man is evil. They are capable of evil things. They separate themselves from Ralph and give offering to the "beast".An example of someone who is essentially evil is Adolf Hitler. He is a lot like Jack in this story because Adolf killed his way to the top and brainwashed everyone to help. He was an evil power-hungry dictator. Everything he is can be described as evil. We are evil and we alwasy will be. The only way to become good is to hide our primative sides and shun the evil that is inside us all. we have potential, lets see how we use it.

Who Should Survive? (200 words)
the people that should survive are Dr. Dane becasue of his knowledge of plants which could be very helpful in the jungle. Mr. Newton is going to live because of his medical school education. Mr. Blake, due to his experience in construction and mechanics, also becasue he doesn't mind being outdoors. Dr. Gonzoles, well that one should be obvios, he's a doctor. And last but not least...actually, the least of them all, Jean Garcia. Yes he is a baby but hey, if we cant find food and need something to eat we'll have a nice healthy baby. I do realize that Mr. Newton is a suspected sex predator but i think we have more problems to worry about. Yes it is a big deal but i think we'll just have to be careful. I wouldn't take certain people like Mrs. Victor becasue she has no purpose other than for relieving temtation, Mr. Newton's that is. But still i think she should die. Bobby may have been usefull but he is already in a critical condition and i dont think being trapped on an island for an unknown period of time woul dbe very unsafe. It was actually pretty hard when it came to deciding whether Mrs. Dane should live or not. Mainly becasue if anyone started becoming paranoid or just started going crazy we would have someone who may have been able to help as a therapist or pyschiatris of some sort. Also she is fat and if we run out of food we would kill her and then we would of had a LOT of food for a while. But still not too helpful so she's going to die.

Is Murder Jusifiable? (200)
The things that motivates people to murder other people is hate, anger, and for the pure joy of killing. Most regular people kill out of anger and hate but for someone to kill out of enjoyment they have to have some serious mental problems. No i don't believe that murder is justifiable, because you cant justify something like ending one's life. Especially for something like money or because of an insult. Honestly i don't know if murder is justifiable or not becasue I choose a side i'll be a total hypacrite. I could say that it's justifiable but if I ever murdered someone it would have been for a good reason and at that point i wounld have tried to prove that it IS justifiable. So...all i have to say is that i do not know. I don't know what i' m going to think about the subject tomorrow or the day after. My answer is probably going to change. So i'm just going to say Yes and No. Today in society we should do a better job at educating our kids at a younger age, becasue all i see in our youth today is how all these little kids want to be-excuse my frenchbut- bad asses and gangsters and drug dealers and killers. th kid's educate themselves in what they see and hear from all the wrong people. They see a big drug lord has been arrested for his actions and is on the news and the kids nowdays think he's cool and hardcore and want to be like him. we need to learn how to tell our kids that these people are bad and that they are tearing our nation apart. these kids that grow up thinking they are better than everything else aren't doing us any good. with more and more people acting this way we are getting less and less people that help our country. In the future all our kids are going to be killers if we doint do anything about it today. The only way to do that is to educate our kids and talk to them.

Warning Signs of Abuse
Three out of every ten teens have experienced violence in their relationships.
Some warning signs of an abusive relationship they pressure you into doing things you don't want to do, like sex. They also will be obsessive and jealous of you hanging around other people and then isolate you from your friends and family. They may even try to control you and keep tabs on you wherever you go. They say that you are the reason for the way they act and get you to stay with them. They may abuse drug and alcohol. They tend to blame you for things they have done and mistreat you. You try to become what they want you to be. You allow them to control you. They can either abuse you physically or emotionally. Either way you are still getting hurt and lowering your self-esteem. The abuser may leave and then come back to you repeatedly.Teens that experience this type of abuse usually find out that their partner has suffered from abuse in their childhood and they don't know how to channel their anger. They accuse you of being unfaithful or flirting and they have a history of bad relationships. They usually lose their temper when they feel hurt. The person being abused may find it hard to leave the abuser. But in the end its the best thing you could do for yourself.

SPEAK 4 DQ's
1. They School board changes the mascot many times each to something different because of someone's opinion. I think that once you find a mascot and and a name you should stick with it.
2. The things that draw Melinda and Ivy together are the fact that they hate Andy Evans and Art class.
3. I agree with a some of the lies but others are just opinions or only happen at M.W.H.
4. When Melinda finds out that Rachel is dating she experiences many emotions like anger, becasue she hates the fact that her ex-friend is dating her raper, confusion, she is confused at why she's attracted to him. She did the right thing by telling Rachel that Andy raped her.
5. The symbolism of that quote is that Mr. Freeman is trying to get Melinda to be more flexible with her tree drawlings and realize that nothing is perfect. they have flaws.
6. She starts doing yardwork and starts caring for the yard.
7. When she decides to talk to her she starts some small talk so there wouln't be much tension between them but as soon as she cofesses that it was Andy who raped her Rachel Freaks out on her and all hope is lost once again.
8. It reveals that she is not the only one who's been hurt by Andy evans. And that she shouldn't feel so alone inside becasue there are others that can relate to what she's feeling, maybe not to that extreme but im sure there are similar feelings.
9. To get rid of the dead things on her out/inside she had to cut them off...cut them away so that new, strong and beautiful things can take their place.

SPEAK 2 DQ's pp. 49-92
1. Melinda's decline probably began when she decided not to tell anyone about the rape. then one thing led to another and she stopped speaking period. Some of the ways she would keep herself from talking was to bite her lips. now her lips are scared, bruised, and covered in scabs.
2. The debate wasn't even appropriate in the first place. there was no reason why mr. neck had to bring his problems into the class room. But he did and whenever someone would take the logical approach to what happened to his kid, he would turn them down because he is set on his beliefs only. One kid said that there was a possibility that his son wasn't good enough and mr neck thinks that the student is trying to offend him. which is completely against the point because it was that kids assumption to why mr neck's son didn't get the job he wanted and since its a debate he had the right to say what he wanted.
3. A real american is someone who has been born here or has a legal certification of being an american citizen. Mr neck's opinion on the borders thing is just an opinion. The way he acted to some of the kids was kind of immature. An opinion is just an opinion and that stuff is in the past. its not like there's a way he/ the students could change anything by stating their opinion, it already happened.
4. The thanksgiving was a disaster. Her mom forget to cook the turkey, her dad destroyed the turkey, nothing went the way normal thanksgivings do and melinda was stuck in the middle not knowing what to do/ say or how to help.
5. This means that they try too hard to get along for Melinda's sake. That the only reason why they still talk is because they don't want to hurt melinda. This means that she feels that she is just bringing them down harder and harder because the longer they stay together the more they'll hate each other.
6.
7. Melinda is very athletic but she doesn't feel any need to be a part of any teams or clubs of some sort.
8. The deterioration of their friendship was probably when heather joined the Marthas. Since heather tried so hard to be apart of something the more melinda wanted to kill her. Not really, but she felt like she wasn't good enough for heather since she had such high standards but still wanted to be friends because she had no one else. People like us more when they can get something out of us. its that simple. Be nice to this one person and you get free stuff. Pretty cool for the person receiving stuff. No the marthas do not like heather. Because she is an annoying little freshman.
9. Things we should value in other people is... their values. And also personality, moral standards, views on life, and many smaller things like taste in music or looks. Things i usually notice about people first are who they hang-out with, and from that i can figure out other things like if they do drugs or drink or what kind of music they listen to. Then i look at the way they do certain things, or say things. All these things really matted to me, i don't know about other kids but if my girl friend liked rap music, hated rock, dressed preppy, does drugs or likes me just because i look cute i would defiantly no like them.
10. It is this big strong monster that controls everything and is everywhere. Its scary, powerful and out to get her.
11. Well i remember that Melinda's parents came in for a conference and they determined that she's a mute but i do not recall her attempting suicide at all in the book...so i have no idea...

SPEAK 1 Discussion Qustions pp.3-46
1. Melinda's first day was, to her, was apperenly a long boring day of analyzing school and everything about it. what the teachers are like, what the students are like, how the kids in high school group themselves into clans or 'cliques' and how people are going to treat her after what she did last summer. Her fears were more intense for her and not for others because she had called the cops at a really dig party during the summer and they came and crashed it. What she means when she says 'i am Outcast' is how she didn;t feel that she belonged there and that she felt alone.
2. The word 'clans' is just another way of saying 'a group of people that protet themselves and only associate with the other people in the group'. people get put into clans or cliques at school so that they can feel like they fit in. and also its a good thing to surround yourself with pople that resect you and make you feel better about yourself. We sometimes dont like people that are especially good at certain thing becasue of jealousy. it is not really fair on their part becasue we need to support them but instead we let our emotions take hold and we look at them like they should not have the gift of talent and that we should.

6.Communication in Melinda's family seems pretty poor. they never seem to talk to anyone. and if they do need to talk they write their thoughts down on a sheet of paper so that someone will see it eventually. If i were a parent i would be communicate with my kids like how any other person would. with verbal conversation, but since i dont want my kids to grow up hating me like i did with mine, ill just give them some space and thy'll understand and will give me space when i need it so there isn't any fighting.
7. The interaction between heather and melinda is more of a not so much good friend interaction but more like a...i have no one else and you are nice interaction. The thing that brings them together would be the fact that they are both outcasts, have no friends, and are somewhat kinda shy-ish.
8. Yes I think everyone is someone else on the outside than they are one the inside. Some people make it so difficult to see what kind of person they are inside but others are exatly the same..maybe. some people, like me, tend to show exaltly who they are on the inside on the outside but people try so hard that they miss the big picture. i wear black because i think its a cool color and that it makes me feel alittle more like the way i am, i dont like to show emoton becasue i know that at times showing emotion is a sign of weakness. but i will show you a happy side if you catch me in the right mood. you see everyone has a side that they dont show and i think its 100 percent true. mostly becasue of how we want others to see us or how we want to fit in to the crowds at school or just because of past experiences that have caused us to become inverted.

Abuse
If i had a friend who had physical signs of abuse id be pretty worried. First of all i would talk to that friend about their injuries and how they got them. If after many times of asking how he/she got the injuries and their answer always being 'i dont know' i would probably look into it more (depending on how much i like that friend). But since im such a nice person id probably look into more anyways. Im not exatly too sure how i would check for anything like that but im sure id think of something like: talking to that person about it, placing hidden cameras in their home, meeting their parents, you know, all that kand of good-friend stuff. After all that and i have my evidence, if the evidence is good enough i would call child service and make sure that my friend gets the parents they desrve, good and loving. But if the evidence isn't good enough i would probably just the situation alone for a while but keep a close eye out fro certain things like new injuries or not wanting to go home, avoidong parents, and changes in personality. f i had a friend who had evidence of being abused id do anything i could to make sure they get help and get what they deserve.

Discussion Quetions
1. The significance of of that quote was that no matter how much he beat the cat it would always love him back.
2. The significance of poe naming his cat pluto is that he is actually decribing him self like pluto. Pluto is a cold, dark, far away place. that matches his description perfectly.
3. The narrator restrians himself from hurting the cat because for a long period of time that was the only thing that he really loved. he had a deep love for that cat and he didn't want the guilt of hurting it on his soul. and honestly in my opinion i think another reason is becasue maybe he thought that in hurting, what he described as himself, would be like hurting himself. just an opinion.
4.The narrator had a breid moment of guilt and remorse but his soul still remained untouched. but it is significiant because he finally did that last one dirty deed, he finally hurt the thing that he loved deerest.
6. he defines perverseness as him being overthrown with evil or he being the root of his own evil. I think i do believe that it is in human nature. but honestly im not sure.
7.The significance of that quote is that he could not face the guilt of what he done to his cat. and the only way to get ride of his guilt was to get rid of the cat. so in a way...poe might have thought that he was doing it a favor by puting it out of its pain.

the best thing i did this summer
The best thing I did this summer was write/direct/film a music video. A few weeks ago a friend and I saw a cermercial on tv advartising a contest where you would film you and your band playing Rockband(the vidoe game). So, me and two other friends entered the contest hoping to win the grand prize of Best Music Video. Also if your band won got a VMA award and your video gets to be played on tv durring the MTV VMAs. The song we picked was '21 Guns' by Green Day off their new album '21st Century Breakdown'. So far our Video has 1180 something veiws but we still have a long ways to go before we can catch up to the other videos. Unfortunently voting doesn't start until August 8th and goes to maybe Setptember something(thats when we get to see who wins the contest. Since i didn't really do too much this summer excpt play guitar and sleep making this video was the only exciting thing I did. I sure hope we win.
