SPEAK 2 DQ's pp. 49-92

1. Melinda's decline probably began when she decided not to tell anyone about the rape. then one thing led to another and she stopped speaking period. Some of the ways she would keep herself from talking was to bite her lips. now her lips are scared, bruised, and covered in scabs.

2. The debate wasn't even appropriate in the first place. there was no reason why mr. neck had to bring his problems into the class room. But he did and whenever someone would take the logical approach to what happened to his kid, he would turn them down because he is set on his beliefs only. One kid said that there was a possibility that his son wasn't good enough and mr neck thinks that the student is trying to offend him. which is completely against the point because it was that kids assumption to why mr neck's son didn't get the job he wanted and since its a debate he had the right to say what he wanted.

3. A real american is someone who has been born here or has a legal certification of being an american citizen. Mr neck's opinion on the borders thing is just an opinion. The way he acted to some of the kids was kind of immature. An opinion is just an opinion and that stuff is in the past. its not like there's a way he/ the students could change anything by stating their opinion, it already happened.

4. The thanksgiving was a disaster. Her mom forget to cook the turkey, her dad destroyed the turkey, nothing went the way normal thanksgivings do and melinda was stuck in the middle not knowing what to do/ say or how to help.

5. This means that they try too hard to get along for Melinda's sake. That the only reason why they still talk is because they don't want to hurt melinda. This means that she feels that she is just bringing them down harder and harder because the longer they stay together the more they'll hate each other.

6.

7. Melinda is very athletic but she doesn't feel any need to be a part of any teams or clubs of some sort.

8. The deterioration of their friendship was probably when heather joined the Marthas. Since heather tried so hard to be apart of something the more melinda wanted to kill her. Not really, but she felt like she wasn't good enough for heather since she had such high standards but still wanted to be friends because she had no one else. People like us more when they can get something out of us. its that simple. Be nice to this one person and you get free stuff. Pretty cool for the person receiving stuff. No the marthas do not like heather. Because she is an annoying little freshman.

9. Things we should value in other people is... their values. And also personality, moral standards, views on life, and many smaller things like taste in music or looks. Things i usually notice about people first are who they hang-out with, and from that i can figure out other things like if they do drugs or drink or what kind of music they listen to. Then i look at the way they do certain things, or say things. All these things really matted to me, i don't know about other kids but if my girl friend liked rap music, hated rock, dressed preppy, does drugs or likes me just because i look cute i would defiantly no like them.

10. It is this big strong monster that controls everything and is everywhere. Its scary, powerful and out to get her.

11. Well i remember that Melinda's parents came in for a conference and they determined that she's a mute but i do not recall her attempting suicide at all in the book...so i have no idea...
